Some Important Things When Purchasing Dog Food

Man's best friend, THE DOG has many superpowers. One of these superpowers is to pretty much to eat anything. This anything includes scrap on the side of the roads, shoes, etc. Dogs are nibblers and no matter how many times you fill their bowl, they will not stop eating. They might be the smartest animals but they know nothing about the nutrition and this is where you jump in and prove that you are their best friend too. Here are a few things which you should be looking out for before you buy the Dog Food next time:

Learn More About Ingredients of  Dog Food!

1.  Nutritional Guarantee by Nutritional Authority

The food should be approved by animal food regulatory authority. AAFCO which stands for Association of American Feed Control Officials label is important to help you understand if the food is balanced or not. It has certain criteria to check whether the food formulated is good enough to meet all the nutritional values your dog needs or not. Whether you are feeding him with lamb, chicken or beef, it is important that the dog digests it. The main ingredient is, however, the most important.

2.  Exclude the By-Product Diet

If you see the word By-Product on the packaging, run away! Why? Because by-products are nothing but leftovers of other animals. This kind of diet is not healthy since it contains damaged organs and tissue. These damaged organs mostly contain diseases. If something is hard to digest, the reason might be that the ingredient which means the by-product meat is not healthy.

3.  Go Gluten Free

Many dog experts believe that dogs are not sensitive to gluten. IT IS WRONG! Gluten will not have any effect in the short run but in the longer term, gluten-free can lead to high blood pressure, heart attack and other digestive systems. Know that going gluten-free is not just a trend. It is a good practice.

4.  Go Through the Label Repeatedly

The label might say premium or economy but we all know it is not. More so, these labels do not explain anything about the ingredients of the label. If it says premium, still look for preservatives which might give any illness to the dog.

5.  Dogs are Omnivores!

Did you know that dogs are omnivores which makes them digest plants and meat too? This means that you can feed them with both. This is helpful especially when the dog is allergic to chicken which is one of the most used ingredients in the diet. More so, you can feed your dog with the right amount of carbohydrates and proteins which your dog really needs.

6.  Do Not Serve More Than Enough

Make sure to feed your dog with the serving as instructed by your vet. Your dog will eat whatever there is in the plate. Do not overfeed your dog.

Dogs have a tendency to digest almost everything when they are young. However, the nutrition you give them will help them in the longer run.
