Most pet owners think that cat food and dog food are the same. Many pet owners believe that they can feed their cat with dog food and vice versa. It is not good to feed a cat with a dog food and dog with a cat food. Cats are carnivores and dogs are omnivores. Cat food has nutrients which are essential for cats and dog food has nutrients which are essential for dogs. Many ingredients used in cat and dog food are similar. Dogs can eat most of the cat food, while cats cannot eat dog food. Some cat food nutrients are dangerous for the dog.
Dog food contains a high amount of vitamin A as compared to cat food. Cat’s body is not able to handle a large quantity of vitamin A as it leads to many health problems in the cat. Dog food contains ingredients that are harmful to the cat. Propylene is added to dog’s food, which is harmful to the cat as it affects the cat health. If a cat is fed by the dog food, then amino acid, protein, and fatty acids deficiency would occur.
Cat food contains vitamin D while dog food does not have vitamin D in their food. As vitamin D makes the dog sick and even the dog die. Cat food contains taurine which is an essential component in a cat’s diet while dogs do not require taurine. Cat food contains Arachidonic acid, which is essential fatty acid while dog food does not require arachidonic acid. Cat food contains the high level of protein as compared to dog food. Cats use protein as an energy source so they need more proteins. Dog food does not contain the high amount of protein.
