WHY COMMERCIAL PET FOOD IS BETTER THAN HOMEMADE PET FOOD?

Pets must be taken care of because they are dear to the owners. Owners are fond of their pets because they keep them happy, responsible and active in life. Pets hold an important place in the lives of humans because they act as companions and friends whenever humans feel lonely and deprived. The best way to keep your pets happy is feeding them with delicious yet nutritious food which can balance the dietary needs and wants.

Pet Food might be commercial i.e. packed or homemade. Both the types have their pros and cons. Obviously, the digestive tract of animals is much smaller than humans so they require little food but it much is full of nutrition. Hence it is critical for them to quickly and easily digest and absorb the required nutrients from their food. Nutrition must be absorbed by the amount of food they take. The food is of no use if the pet is not getting the required nutritious value from it.

Pet owners all around the globe strive for the best food for their pets that are:

Made up of natural ingredients.
Having no byproducts
Having real meat as the first ingredient.

Homemade food is no doubt, natural and it is made under proper supervision. At the same time, there are two problems that have been detected in homemade Pet Food. These two problems include food safety and nutritional integrity. There have been several studies that are done to calculate the nutritious value of homemade food for pets. These studies revealed that this kind of food lacks essential nutrients.

Homemade food required additional and extra care along with time and consideration. It lacks the essential nutrients due to which it can cause certain diseases in pets. Healthy Cat Food and Healthy Dog Food are that which has all the necessary nutrients and homemade food does not have all the nutrients in it. Raw food is not recommended by AAFCO which is a must for pets.

Your pet needs following nutrition needs every day:

Protein
Fats (either from oil or meat)
Carbohydrates
Calcium (bone meal or eggshells ground to the powder)
Essential fatty acids (oatmeal, egg yolks, some plant oils)

The importance of these requirements is described below.

A. It is a wrong perception that only meat is sufficient for pets. It is not balanced and lacks vital vitamins and minerals. Your dog will basic additional calcium, without it, your pet could have poor bone mineralization, the expanded danger of cracks and optional hyperparathyroidism (an imbalance in blood calcium levels). It is generally suggested to add 1 gram of bone meal to every 50 grams of meat to avoid this complication. Care must be taken to prevent excess supplementation of calcium.

B. Fiber is not deliberately considered a necessary nutrient for dogs and cats, but it can help aid complete health. Usually, beet pulp and microcrystalline cellulose have been added to commercial dog foods as a source of fiber which is very important for pet’s health.

C. Carbohydrates and fats are also very important for the body of your pet. Healthy Dog Food and Healthy Pet Food must contain carbs and fats along with fatty acids.

Keeping in mind the above-mentioned nutrients and their value, Homemade Pet Food is not suitable for pets. Commercial foods are the most suitable because of many benefits. They are discussed below.

1. REGULATED BY AAFCO:        Commercial foods are regulated by AAFCO and also by Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The ingredients that are used in commercial foods are chosen on the basis of cost, taste, how easy it is to digest for the pet and nutritional content in the food. Commercial foods are complete in a sense that they are balanced and nutritiously excellent. Since they are regulated by AAFCO, they fulfill the requirement of pets. AAFCO provides a set of guidelines which are necessary for manufacturers to follow. This increases the credibility of manufactured and packed food for pets.

2. EASY TO GET:       Homemade foods for dogs or cats is a fatigue to prepare. On the other hand, commercials foods are easy to get and they are a complete nutrition. For preparing pet’s food at home you must keep all the ingredients in hand, which takes a lot of time and it is hard as well. Ready-made foods are easy to get at any time.

3. ADDITIVES ARE GOOD:      It is generally said about commercial food for pets that it includes by-products and additives in it which FDA tests prove that is good for pet’s health. They release antioxidants which are beneficial for pet’s health. The by-products that are used in Pet Food is guaranteed cooked and then they are added to food in the form of powder. AAFCO takes all the responsibility for the manufacturing of food for pets. Homemade food might not be a complete diet for your pet.
